- Bus Design Contest for Middle and High School Students
- Design must use theme of “Share Our Streets — Be a PAL”
- Winning design will be used to wrap one ART bus
ARLINGTON, VA – Arlington Transit announced today a bus design contest for middle and high school students who live or attend school in Arlington County. Students are asked to design the outside of an ART bus using the theme “Share Our Streets — Be a PAL” which is Arlington's pedestrian, cycling and driving safety initiative.
The winning design will be used to wrap one ART bus that will travel throughout Arlington County and be seen by residents and visitors alike.
The contest will help promote both County Board Chairman J. Walter Tejada's “Share Our Streets — Be a PAL” safety initiative as well as Arlington Transit's iRide program which encourages teens to use transit, bike and walk.
“I'm excited to see what kind of fun and creative designs the students come up with,” said Tejada. “This will be a great opportunity to get them involved in the safety program, as well as making others aware of PAL.”
Designs must use the theme of “Share Our Streets — Be a PAL.” All design submissions must be received by Monday, June 3, 2013. A panel will then vote to narrow down the submissions to three finalists. Starting June 10, County residents can vote for their favorite design online. The design with the most votes will be used to wrap one ART bus which will be revealed at the County Fair in August. All designs received will be put on display inside of ART buses for the public to view.

About “Share Our Streets — Be a PAL”
Part of Board Chairman J. Walter Tejada's Moving Forward Together agenda includes the “Share Our Streets — Be a PAL — Compartamos Nuestras Calles, Seamos Amables” safety initiative. The program strives to educate pedestrians, cyclists and drivers about the importance of sharing the streets and being a PAL:
Predictable – travel in a predictable way; don't make sudden, unexpected moves
Alert – pay attention to your surroundings and to others around you
Lawful – obey the traffic laws, whether in a car, on a bike, or on foot
Whether you're on two feet, two wheels or four wheels, we all need to share our streets safely.
