- Satisfaction ratings with County services, quality of life increased

ARLINGTON, VA — Residents are highly satisfied with County government services, according to results from Arlington's third Resident Satisfaction Survey, conducted this spring by ETC Institute. Overall satisfaction with the quality of services improved to 89%. In addition, the satisfaction with quality of life went up significantly to 92%, from 87% in 2008.
Overall satisfaction improved or stayed the same in 64 of the 92 service areas rated in the 2008 and 2012 surveys, showing progress over the last four years. Also, when compared to other communities its size, overall satisfaction with County services rated 32 percentage points above the national average. The survey identified street maintenance and management of traffic flow as the most important areas to improve.
“I'm pleased with the results of the survey. It shows we are clearly moving in the right direction – and that we need to continue to invest in our streets and infrastructure,” says County Manager Barbara Donnellan. “Having objective data from the community on where we are doing well and where we need to improve is critical to our work.”
“I've conducted more than 500 community surveys in the last two decades, and Arlington continues to set itself apart from other communities, at a time when the rest of the nation is declining,” says Chris Tatham, vice president at ETC Institute. “These results don't happen by accident. Arlington County sets its service priorities right, then delivers those services well.”
The statistically valid survey was administered to more than 1,300 residents by mail, phone and online in the spring of 2012. The survey was offered in both English and Spanish. The results of the survey were assessed against ETC Institute's national survey as well as specific survey results of communities with populations of more than 100,000.
