As part of its Open Government Program, Arlington County Government will begin live broadcasting and webcasting Arlington County Board work sessions this month.
“Following the Board’s approval of expanded live broadcasts and webcasts of meetings, ATV, our cable channel, was able to quickly put in place a plan that will make Board work sessions available in real time to the public,” Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz said. “For the first time, our residents will be able to watch the County Board’s Budget work sessions from their homes – on television or computers. We hope these broadcasts will involve more residents in important County decision-making processes.”
ATV will begin live broadcasts of County Board work sessions at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, with the broadcast and webcast of a work session reviewing the proposed Fiscal Year 2017 Budget. View the schedule of County Board FY 2017 Budget Work sessions. The two-hour Budget work sessions give the Board the opportunity to dive deep into each department’s proposed budget for FY 2017. ATV will broadcast and webcast all work sessions held in the County Board Room.
County Board work sessions throughout the year will be broadcast on Comcast Ch. 74 and Verizon FiOS Ch. 39, and webcast on the County website. They will be repeated on those channels the following weekday at 1 p.m. (Thursday’s meeting will be repeated on Friday at 1 p.m. and Friday’s meeting will be repeated on Monday at 1 p.m.). The meetings also will be archived on the County website.
The broadcasts and webcasts are part of the County’s Open Government initiative, which aims to make government more transparent and accessible. In April 2016 The County plans to begin broadcasting and webcasting County Planning Commission and Transportation Commission meetings that are held in the County Board Room.
