- 2017 Platinum level champions honored for sustainable transportation strategies

The Arlington County Board honored 19 local businesses and properties for their dedication to providing sustainable transportation to employees and tenants, as part of the Champions program. The program, created by Arlington Transportation Partners (ATP) and supported by Arlington County Commuter Services (ACCS), motivates businesses, multi-family residential communities, commercial properties and schools to recognize the impact they can make on reducing traffic congestion in Arlington County.
Platinum Level Champions are companies in Arlington that have made a financial and cultural commitment to implementing transportation initiatives and programs. They value a balanced corporate culture, including improved employee benefits, sustainability and a better work/life balance.
“Arlington County prides itself on being one of the best places in the region to work and live. Platinum Level Champions are integral in encouraging the use of local and regional mobility options. Their support maintains this vibrant community’s status as a top destination for business, employees and residents nationwide,” said Wendy Duren, ATP Program Director. “We are proud to recognize our Platinum Level Champions for 2017. They are leading by example, and we look forward to our continued partnership in 2018 and beyond.”
Earlier this year, 231 total businesses were honored at an annual ceremony, with Arlington County Board Member John Vihstadt, ACCS Bureau Chief Jim Larsen and keynote Sabrina Sussman, Manager of Public Partnerships at Zipcar, in attendance. Sussman shed light on the future of transportation and what that could mean for businesses and properties in Arlington County.
For Champions 2018, ATP will challenge Platinum Level Champions to take their commitment even further and provide tangible programs that encourage employees, residents and tenants to try more sustainable transportation options.

Formerly called Workplace Commute Champions, Champions began as a pilot for employers only in 2013, and officially launched in 2014. Today, more than 230 companies are enrolled including corporations, trade associations, governmental agencies and universities.
