- Available Sept. 3 at all Commuter Stores
ARLINGTON, Va. – Arlington Transit (ART) is introducing a student SmarTrip® card that will make it easier for Arlington teens to take transit. Arlington County middle and high school students who purchase the Student iRide SmarTrip® card can ride the ART bus for the teen discount fare of 75 cents.
The card also works on Metrorail, Metrobus and other regional bus systems that accept SmarTrip®. The student discount only applies to ART. Until now, students had to pay cash or use an iRide token to get the discounted rate.
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Student iRide SmarTrip® card may be purchased for $3 at the Commuter Stores located in Ballston, Rosslyn, Shirlington, Crystal City and the Mobile Commuter Store which travels throughout Arlington. The student must be present at the time of purchase and show their student ID (or other form of ID). The card will expire on the student's 19th birthday, at which time they may purchase a standard SmarTrip® card and have any stored value transferred to the new card.
The artwork on the Student iRide SmarTrip® card was designed by Arlington student, Daniel Grumbles, who will enter into the 9th grade at Washington-Lee High School this fall.
More information about the Student iRide SmarTrip® card can be found on the County Web site.
