The New Year will bring the first increase in Arlington County taxicab rates and other changes in fees in nearly four years.
The County Board today, as part of its Consent Calendar, voted unanimously to approve increasing the initial charge by 25 cents – to $3 from $2.75. The per mile rate will rise from $2.10 to $2.16, the waiting per hour fee will rise from $22.50 to $23.14. In addition, the current footlocker fee of $2 will be dropped and a $25 cleaning fee will be added if passengers dirty or foul a cab enough that the cab must be removed from service.
Arlington’s current taxicab rates are among the region’s lowest. The decision to raise rates and changes in other fees reflect this information and the staff analysis of rising costs of doing business– a three percent increase since the last allowed rate change in 2012.
All changes will be effective January 1, 2016.
