To allow for the review, the County Board directed the County Manager this week to institute a moratorium on adding or removing RPP restrictions to new blocks and on modifying hours of enforcement for existing blocks.
The review and moratorium process is expected to take 2 years.
The RPP system was last reviewed 12 years ago. Arlington County wants to ensure the program continues to meet broader policy goals and that administrative procedures are effective.
Throughout the review period, staff will not issue petition forms for residents seeking new or modified existing RPP restrictions.
Any existing residential parking restrictions will remain in effect, and the 11,400 households that are currently eligible to receive permit materials will still be able to apply for and receive them during the annual renewal period and throughout the year.
The County work session and the staff presentation on the RPP program can be viewed online.
