SHOPLIFTING (significant), 2021-02280142, 1100 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 4:35 p.m. on February 28, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim observed the suspect enter a business in possession of a book bag. Upon exiting, security alarm activated and security attempted to question the suspect and requested to search his bag. The suspect allegedly refused to allow security to check his bag and produced a pair fo brass knuckles, then fled the business on foot. A lookout was broadcast, and arriving officers located the suspect in the area and detained him without incident. Prior to making contact with the suspect, security observed the suspect discard the bag. Officers located the bag in the area, which contained merchandise which was allegedly stolen by the suspect. The suspect was also determined to have been previously banned from the business. Errol Martin, 23, of Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny: Shoplifting, Possession of a Concealed Weapon by a Convicted Felon, and Trespassing.
INDECENT EXPOSURE, 2021-02280076, 2000 block of 14th Street N. At approximately 6:36 a.m. on February 28, police were dispatched to the report of an exposure. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect, who had previously been asked to leave the location, was still on the property and exposing himself. Arriving officers made contact with the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Davontay Brown, 23, of No Fixed Address, was arrested and charged with Indecent Exposure.
AGGRAVATED MALICIOUS WOUNDING (late), 2021-02250097, 2900 block of S. Glebe Road. At approximately 11:45 a.m. on February 25, police were dispatched to an EMS assist. Upon arrival, it was determined that on February 19, the victim was asleep underneath the overpass when he was approached by a known suspect who wrapped his legs in blankets and set them on fire. The victim and a witness were able to extinguish the fire and the suspect left the scene. Upon receiving the request for service on February 25, the victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The suspect is described as a light skinned Hispanic male, approximately 27 years of age, 5’5” tall with a medium build. The investigation is ongoing.
MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED DWELLING (late), 2021-02260074, 5700 block of Washington Boulevard. At approximately 11:15 a.m. on February 26, police were dispatched to the report of suspicious circumstances. Upon arrival, it was determined that on February 20, the victim located a bullet hole inside his residence and later found a bullet fragment. Further investigation revealed an argument was overheard in the adjoining apartment the evening prior to the bullet hole being discovered. As officers were attempting to make telephone contact with those residents, the male subject emerged from the building and fled the scene. Following a foot pursuit, he was detained by officers. A firearm was later recovered. The investigation is ongoing.
ROBBERY, 2021-02280133, 2500 block of 9th Road S. At approximately 3:24 p.m. on February 28, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 3:15 p.m., the suspect entered a business and began selecting merchandise, then placing it in a shopping cart. The suspect then attempted to exit the business without paying, at which point the victim challenged him and attempted to grab the cart. A brief struggle ensued, during which the suspect pushed the victim with the cart, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then fled prior to police arrival. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5’3”, stocky build, 45 years old, wearing a brown hat, brown jacket, purple shirt, jeans, dark boots, and a fabric face mask. The investigation is ongoing.
MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED VEHICLE, 2021-02280037, 500 block of N. Piedmont Street. At approximately 1:57 a.m. on February 28, police were dispatched to the area of S. Barton Street and Columbia Pike for the report of trouble unknown. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victims had just parked their vehicle in the 500 block of N. Piedmont Street and were still inside when they were allegedly approached by approximately three or four suspects who used an object to break the window. The victims were able to drive away and contact police. The suspects fled prior to police arrival. Officers canvasing the area located broken glass and a shattered beer bottle. The victims were not injured. Suspect One is described as a Hispanic male, 5’0”-5’5”, wearing a red jacket. Suspect Two is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’0”-5’5”, with short, curly hair. There are no other suspect descriptions. The investigation is ongoing.
MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED VEHICLE, 2021-02270110, 900 block of S. Dinwiddie Street. At approximately 1:50 p.m. on February 27, police were dispatched to the 1100 block of S. Hayes Street for the late report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim was inside his idling vehicle in the 900 block of S. Dinwiddie Street when the suspect pulled alongside him in a vehicle and began yelling at him. The suspect then threw a can of soda into the victim’s vehicle, striking the victim and causing liquid to spill in the interior of the car. The suspect then fled in their vehicle prior to police arrival. The suspect is described as a light skinned Hispanic male, 35-45 years old, clean shaven, wearing a white t-shirt. The vehicle is described as a silver Nissan Versa with Virginia license plates. The investigation is ongoing.
LARCENY FROM AUTO (significant), 2021-02260050, 2300 block of Clarendon Boulevard. At approximately 9:01 a.m. on February 26, police were dispatched to the late report of a larceny from auto. Upon arrival, it was determined that between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on February 25, an unknown suspect gained entry to the victim’s vehicle and stole a firearm. There is no suspect description(s). The investigation is ongoing.
UNLAWFUL ENTRY (late), 2021-02270064, 900 block of N. Stuart Street. At approximately 9:59 a.m. on February 27, police were dispatched to the late report of breaking and entering. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 3:30 a.m. on February 27, the victim awoke and observed the known suspect walking around inside the residence. Nothing was reported stolen from the residence. The investigation is ongoing.
