ASSAULT & BATTERY (Significant), 2021-03230206, 3100 block of Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 11:38 p.m. on March 23, police were dispatched to the report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect was inside a restaurant when he became involved in a verbal altercation with a group of individuals. The suspect then allegedly followed the group to different restaurants while making verbally harassing statements. The verbal altercation continued to escalate, during which a member of the group grabbed the suspect’s cell phone and smashed it on the ground. The suspect then produced a knife. As bystanders attempted to separate the parties and escort the suspect out of the restaurant, he grabbed a beer bottle and threw it in the direction of the group. The bottle struck a bystander causing a laceration to the head. The bystander was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The suspect then left the scene and entered a separate restaurant where officers located him and took him into custody without incident. During a search of the suspect, officers located two identification cards that did not have the suspect’s information on it. Akintola Olowofoyeku, 39, of Hyattsville, MD, was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery, Simple Assault, Drunk in Public, Identity Theft and Possession of Fictitious ID. He was held in the Detention Facility. Christopher Hart, 36, of Arlington, VA was issued a summons for Destruction of Property and released on scene.
BURGLARY, 2021-03220176, 5500 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 5:58 p.m. on March 22, police were dispatched to the report of a breaking and entering. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim arrived home at approximately 4:00 p.m. and discovered the door to his apartment open. Electronics, cash and various personal items were reported stolen. There is no suspect(s) description. The investigation is ongoing.
