ARLINGTON, Va. – St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th, and nationwide we continually see a spike in drunk-driving crashes on this date every year. According to data from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, between 2011 and 2015, 252 people died in car crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday in the United States. That’s why the Arlington County Police Department is reminding citizens not to press their luck. If your celebration includes alcohol, designate a sober driver, whether it’s a friend, relative, taxi, ride sharing or public transportation.
On Saturday, March 18th, the Arlington County Police Department is conducting the Don’t Press Your Luck anti-drunk driving event to highlight the impact alcohol has on motor skills. This free event is open to the public and will take place at the intersection of Hudson Street N. and Wilson Boulevard beginning at 3:00 PM.
The Arlington County Police Department will conduct the following road closures from approximately 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM to accommodate this event:
- Hudson Street N. from N. Wilson Boulevard to 13th Street N.
Motorists should be on the lookout for temporary “No Parking” signs in the area. Illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed. If your vehicle is towed from a public street, call 703-558-2222.
