Arlington County is updating the Bicycle Element of its Master Transportation Plan (MTP). Much has changed since the MTP was adopted in 2008. New technologies, facilities and best practices warrant a thorough Bike Plan update.
We will incorporate comments and suggestions from people with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds from civic and business organizations into the update. The wealth of expertise in our community, and among our County staff, will help us improve mobility, safety, comfort and convenience for bicyclists and make it even more attractive to ride a bicycle as a way of getting around for people of all ages and interests.
We want to hear from you! Here are ways you can share your suggestions:
Get on the List
Get the latest from the Working Group of community members weighing in on draft policies. The group typically holds monthly meetings that are open to the public. Learn more and sign up for monthly email updates.
Swing by a meet and greet
You can meet County staff and Working Group members in the coming weeks as they get out and about in the community. Provide feedback by taking our survey and learn more about the bike plan update process, the why and how of overarching policies and more. Here’s where you can find us in the coming weeks:
You can also participate in the feedback survey online, now through September 22. Staff and the Working Group will use the survey results, along with input from County commissions and advisory groups, to help develop the Bicycle Element Update framework. The County Board plans to review the update framework, which will include the plan’s goals and policies, at a work session in late fall 2017 (date to be determined).
Once the Board endorses the framework, the County will begin a new community outreach effort around measures for implementing the plan, especially on identifying projects for new or enhanced bikeways in the County. The updated plan is expected to be adopted by the County Board in the summer of 2018.
