Arlington County’s newest free app puts the public library within reach of iPhone and Android users wherever they may be.
App users can search the catalog, manage their accounts, book meeting rooms and access library information and operating hours. They also can browse featured events, news and popular booklists.
“The app will make it easy for patrons to connect with the Library,” Arlington Public Library Director Diane Kresh. “It’s like carrying it in your pocket.”
The app packages information available on the Library website into a mobile-friendly, easy-to-use platform. It offers features such as barcode scanning, push notifications when holds are ready or accounts overdue, and geolocation of the nearest library.
With mobile traffic to the Library homepage soaring – 38 percent of visits to the site now come from a mobile device – the Library has reworked the homepage to offer a more user-friendly navigation experience.
The Library app, developed by the County’s Department of Technology Services in partnership with Arlington Public Library, is the second app developed by the County and the fourth app it has offered to Arlington residents.
The County launched the “ArlingtonVA Service Requests” and “Parkmobile” apps in 2014 and the “My Arlington” app in 2016. All four apps support the County’s Open Government program, promoting transparency and better access to data.
