On June 4, 2021, the Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz announced his pick for the top law enforcement officer in Arlington County, Chief Charles “Andy” Penn.
As Sheriff, I have worked closely with Andy Penn throughout his various roles within the Arlington County Police Department. I have seen firsthand his commitment to being actively engaged with community members and organizations and listening to their concerns. Since becoming Acting Chief he has implemented positive changes to align with best practices in policing, including policy amendments and the implementation of a body worn camera program which helps to increase community safety and trust. Andy is committed and prepared to work collaboratively to ensure the safety of our community for everyone.
Today, more than ever, police chiefs must commit to the principles of trust, accountability and transparency. I believe Andy has demonstrated leadership in each of these areas and I look forward serving the Arlington community alongside him in his new role.
